Two Top Fives For Grant Quinlan At Kershaw

March 29, 2012 (KERSHAW, S.C.) - Defending World Karting Association Triple Crown champion Grant Quinlan notched a pair of top-five finishes last weekend at round two of the WKA Manufacturers Cup Series at Kershaw, S.C.'s Carolina Motorsports Park.
Quinlan, who was back behind the wheel of his MRP Motorsport No. 28 Birel for the first time since December at Daytona KartWeek, was a key factor throughout the weekend in the four Yamaha and Komet Junior divisions.
The 12-year-old Maidstone, Ontario racer wheeled his Birel to feature finishes of third in Yamaha Jr Lite, fifth in Komet Jr Heavy and sixth in Komet Jr Lite.
The two top-five results gave Quinlan three podium finishes on the 2012 WKA Man Cup season in his first year in the super-competitive 12- to 15-year-old junior ranks, which regularly boast fields in excess of 35 karts.
"We had an up-and-down Daytona so we wanted to go to Kershaw and do well," Quinlan said after his weekend in South Carolina. "A couple podiums is a great step in the right direction. I think we'll be able to get that first junior win here very soon. The competition at this level is really strong so I'm glad we were able to run up front. Thanks to everyone who helped, especially my dad, Tim, Chris and Garry Lobaugh from MRP and everyone on the MRP team."
Quinlan has started eight main events thus far in the 2012 Man Cup season. Quinlan has two DNFs, but of the six races in which he's been running at the end, he's finished worse than sixth only once - an 11th-place result in Yamaha Jr Heavy at Kershaw.
Next up for Quinlan is round three of the WKA Manufacturers Cup Series, May 4-6 at Pennsylvania's Pittsburgh Int'l Race Complex (formerly BeaveRun). Grant also will be competing in U.S. Legends Car racing in 2012. His legends car schedule is TBA.
