05.13.2013 - Maxxis tire rule at WKA Dirt Briggs Summer Nationals; other news and notes

2012 dirtCONCORD, N.C. – WKA has announced a tire rule for this July 19-21 Briggs & Stratton Racing Dirt Summer Nationals at Wheel Crazy Kartway in Johnsonville, S.C., located about 50 minutes west of Myrtle Beach.

All 30 classes on tap at the Briggs Summer Nationals will run a Maxxis HT-3 spec tire rule.

The Maxxis tire rule falls in line with what many Southeast-based dirt series and tracks are running. This gives many racers and teams the opportunity to run the one-off WKA national event without having to invest in tires they don’t normally run.

WKA has formalized the event’s class structure. Eight Pro money classes will run between Saturday and Sunday, July 20-21. Twenty-two traditional WKA “trophy “classes are also on the card.

The headline event is the big $5,000-To-Win Pro Animal division, which will run Sunday. The class will pay back 10 spots and boast many of the best dirt racers in the country battling for the top prize.

Charger Racing Chassis has stepped up to sponsor the Pro Animal division.

One of the most popular divisions will be the return of Pro Limited Modified to a WKA Dirt national. Pro Limited Modified will run for a cool $2,500 to win, made possible by sponsorship from Ultramax Racing Chassis. Pro Limited Modified rules are based off 2003 WKA rules, flathead only, .080 max bore and mufflers are not required. Pro Limited Modified will run Saturday.

Another class of great attention is the Shane Byers Memorial Pro Gold (Animal) division, sponsored by Platinum Racing Chassis. Pro Gold, named in honor of the late Shane Byers, a former WKA Gold-plate dirt racer from Johnsonville, S.C., will run Sunday and pay $1,000 to the winner.

In Pro Gold, a $500 bonus will be up for grabs to one or two drivers. The winner of Saturday’s Junior 3 Box Stock Lite and Junior 3 Box Stock Heavy will be eligible for a $500 bonus if he or she triumphs in Sunday’s Pro Gold main event.

Pro Clone will run Saturday for $1,000 to win. Pro Super Heavy is open to Animal and Clone engines and will pay $1,000 to the winner. Pro Super Heavy will run Sunday.

Pro Champ will run Sunday for $500 to win. Pro Junior 2 (blue Animal or flathead) and Pro Junior 1 (purple Animal) will run Saturday for $500 to win.
