CONCORD, N.C. – The second Super Regional for the WKA Speedway Pavement Series found a slew of new faces in victory lane at the Sandy Hook Speedway in Street, Maryland.
Headlining the list of winners was Kevin Cockerham, a past regular on the Speedway Pavement National Series. Cockerham laid claim to 2 victories, taking the Senior Champ Flathead victory over Brad Hinkelman and Doug Hawkins.
For an encore performance, Cockerham strapped on his Animal motor, and thus took the Senior Champ Animal win as well. The victories cemented Cockerham in the record books as a guaranteed starter in both of these classes at the August 10-12 Grand National at the Chapel Hill Speedway in Great Valley, New York. However, he will once again have to fend off Hinkelman, who also plans to make the journey to the New York facility.
Dayne Koontz was also a dual winner over the weekend, taking the Sportsman 1 victory over Matthew Miller. Koontz later returned to score the win in the Sportsman 1 Champ class. Ryan Rost notched the top honors in the Sportsman 2 category while Josh Miller bested D.J. Powell in the Junior Stock.
In Stock Heavy action, Jason Ness held back the efforts of Ed Kirk, Mike Messina, Paul Headley, and Trevor Trost.
Zac Fowler was also on hand to take some competitive laps in his Kid Kart.
While the winners are guaranteed starters in their respective fields at Chapel Hill, many competitors in the respective Sandy Hook fields fully plan on making the trip to New York for an all out assault on the titles.
The next scheduled Pavement Divisional at Sandy Hook will be September 15.
