12.30.2008 - Nine different racers captured Final triumphs Monday at the WKA Daytona KartWeek 2008 by Cometic during the Margay Sprint Championships at Daytona International Speedway. Final races began late Monday afternoon after a competitive day of qualifying and preliminary races. Five classes needed to run last-chance qualifying races to dwindle the Final field down to 30. HPV Lite, the last final event of the day, concluded as darkness was ready to fall on the DIS facility.

WKA Reserved Number Application
12.18.2008 - WKA is now accepting requests for reserved numbers in the Sprint and Speedway Divisions for the 2009 racing season. The form is for both renewals and new number requests. Renewal applications are currently being received until January 23rd, 2009. Beginning January 24th, 2009, any numbers not taken will become available numbers for anyone to reserve on a first come, first serve basis. The form is available via the main menu at left under "PDF FORMS/APPS" or you may click here to download the application.
Daytona Updates For Manufacturers Cup
And National Road Race Series Competitors
12.17.2008 WKA announces several changes for competitors in the Man Cup and Road Race Series at Daytona. First in the , the interest in Kid Karts continues to grow, and we already have a large number of pre-entries in the class. According to Race Director Kevin Williams, he plans to have a separate meeting for kid kart drivers and has volunteered to take the kids around the track for the first time out. He also plans to give them track at the end of each practice rotation on practice day. On race days they will run after practice, after qualifying and either after consolation races or Pre-finals. The kids will be broken into two groups if there are more than 20 entries (and there are already more pre-entries than that.

License Endorsement Procedure Update
12.12.2008 - Effective December 20, 2008, the World Karting Association will revise its License Endorsement application requirements. Currently, members participating in classes that require a license endorsement are required to submit an endorsement application annually.

WKA Celebrates Its Champions
11.20.2008 - With the 2008-racing season now complete, the World Karting Association is announcing the year-end banquets. The Daytona 500 Club will play host to the George Kugler/Bridgestone Manufacturers Cup Series driven by Mazda champions the night of December 28th while the Dunlop Tire National Road Racing Series driven by Mazda champions will be honored on December 29th. This years Daytona banquet attendees will be greeted under a new format with a Reception from 6:30 - 8:30 followed by the awards presentations.

11.19.2008 - WKA and the SFI Foundation, Inc. (SFI) continue to work together to develop and administer WKAs Technical Inspector Training and Certification Program. This is the fourth year of the SFI/WKA Technical Inspector Training and Certification Program. Riverhead Raceway Joins Speedway Pavement Schedule

Gold Cup Points Standings Protest Resolved
11.13.2008 - On October 23, WKA posted a web site announcement that there was a protest regarding divisional points transferred to the Gold Cup Series. A protest committee met on October 31, at Lowes Motor Speedway to review the series records. Series Director, Bobby Lane, met with the committee to describe some of the challenges that the series leadership faced during the year and how they made their decisions. One series event was canceled because clean up from one hurricane was underway and another hurricane was forecast.

WKA Expands Spec Oil Program For 2009
11.13.2008 WKA is expanding its 2-cycle Spec Oil and Fuel Program in 2009. This year WKA will add all classes in the Manufacturers Cup Series to the program. In addition WKA will continue the Spec Oil & Fuel Program for the Sprint Road Racing Junior Sprint, Piston Port Can Sprint, WKA Sprint, Spec 125 TAG, Stock Honda and Stock Leopard classes. Competitors will be required to use fuel supplied at the track and one of several spec lubricants.

Road Racers Tackle Road Atlanta

WKA Announces 2009 Class Structure And Revised Class Names
10.23.2008 Each year WKA reviews the classes run in each racing division to identify opportunities to add new, potentially more popular classes and make room for them in the schedule by combining or deleting old classes with low participation. WKA Mourns Loss Of Jeff Hofmeister
09.30.2008 - The World Karting family was saddened to learn of the passing of Jeff Hofmeister recently. A resident of Menomonee Falls, Wisconsin, Jeff served as a member of the WKA National tech team on the George Kugler Bridgestone Manufacturers Cup Series in 2004. He eventually took the position of race director for the Mfg Cup and Horstman Gold Cup Series in 2005.

Same Weekend As WKA Pavement Finale
09.19.2008 In an effort to help out those who participate in the NY State Series Divisionals and the Rage Karts Speedway Pavement Series, the Chapel Hill Raceway will host the 2008 NY State Divisional Series Banquet on the Friday evening of the WKA series season finale weekend at BeaveRun Motorsports Complex. 09.19.2008 After a successful start in the World Karting Association, Jimmy Heavlow has moved into his first full year behind the wheel of a Legends cars. In addition to his three wins over the summer months, he most recently won with a new team at Concord Motorsports Park this past Friday night. 09.04.2008 WKA is proud to announce a new member into the karting family. Sarah and Brandon Wetter welcomed a happy and healthy baby girl two weeks ago. Gracyn Harlow Wetter was born on Thursday, August 21, 2008. She was born at 3:02pm and weighed 5lbs 15.9oz. Sarah has worked at the World Karting Association in the office for three years as Pit Pass Sales/National Pre-entries and Administrative Support. Everyone at the World Karting Association would like to send big congratulations out to Sarah and Brandon on the birth of their little girl.

Midwest Sprint Series Wraps Up 2008 Season At USAIR
09.04. 2008 Shawano, WI - The Midwests WKA Regional sprint series wrapped up the 2008 Midwest Sprint Series campaign at the beautiful USA International Raceway this past weekend. USAIR is a first class facility and is always a super host to the MWSS. Sunny skies with warm temps provided the perfect weather for racing. The holiday weekend kept entries a little lower than usual, but there was still plenty of great racing to be found. There were also many series championships decided.

Helmets With Counterfeit Snell 2000 Identification
09.02.2008 Competitors, tech inspectors and dealers should be aware that there are some helmets on the market that have decals stating that they are Snell 2000 certified when they are not. The bogus certification is located on a small decal at the outside, bottom, rear of the helmet. These helmets are not certified for use in WKA competition.

Completes Second Trip To Chapel Hill
08.28.2008 The Rage Karts Speedway Pavement Series held their fourth of five events in the 2008 season at the Chapel Hill Raceway in Humphrey, NY this past weekend. This is the second trip for the pavement drivers to the fast, paved oval track this season. Although the number of entries was not as high as expected, there was plenty of action, both on and off the track; and as always, the friendly staff and track owners welcomed competitors.

Things Heat Up For Brannam During Desert Race
08.26.2008 - Team Glacier Bear Racing went into the Best In The Desert Vegas-Reno 500 mile race full of optimism. Team drivers, Tiffany and Cliff Daniels and WKA competitor, Jessica Brannam, worked late into the night on the eve of the race planning strategy and plotting their course. Even though this was the first time for all three to try their hand at off road racing, there was no lack of confidence amongst the young group of drivers.

Florida Divisional Dirt Series Reschedules Race
08.20.2008 - Declaring a Force Majeure due to tropical storm Faye, the Florida Divisional Dirt Series has rescheduled the sixth and final race from Aug 23rd to Sept 6th, 2008. This decision was made at 10am on Wed, Aug 20th, based on the amount of rain already received in the last two days and the forecast that the tropical storm would not be clear of our area for another two or three days. This would leave no time for track prep or drying.

WKA Announces 2009 Tire Program for
Briggs & Stratton Speedway Dirt Series
08.06.2008 - At their last meeting, the WKA Board of Trustees approved a new tire program for the Briggs & Stratton Speedway Dirt Series for 2009. Under this new Spec Tire Program WKA will invite all tire importers and US tire manufacturers to submit one tire model for use in the Dirt Series. WKA will then select several tire brands for use in the Dirt Series.
This program is designed specifically for selected classes on the Briggs & Stratton Speedway Dirt Series. WKA is still considering its Tire Program options for the Horstman Gold Cup and Rage Karts Speedway Pavement Series.

Jessica entered the race at Blackhawk Farms Raceway in 3rd place in the championship points standings. The only way she could possibly win the championship in the Championship Enduro Series, Briggs Animal 360 division was to win the race.

Memorial For Steve Peterson
07.18.2008 A memorial service will be held to honor Steve Peterson on Saturday, July 19, 2008 at 2:00pm at the Lowes Motor Speedway infield kart track. It is here that Steve will be honored with the celebration of his life and love of motorsports with the disbursement of his ashes over the kart track. All who knew Steve are invited to attend. The kart track is located inside turns three and four in the speedways infield. Entrance to the infield is via the tunnel on the backstretch just before turn three.

Non-Karting Engines In Local Option Classes
07.17.2008 WKA has recognized the interest by several tracks in offering classes for karts equipped with 4-cycle engines not specifically designed for racing conditions. These engines include the so called clone motors, the engines on which they are based, and any other non-kart specific engines. The WKA Board of Trustees would like to accommodate any WKA Master Track or Divisional Series that would like to offer Local Option Classes using these engines.

Speedway Kart Club Holds Informal Memorial For Steve Peterson
07.17.2008 - The Speedway Kart Club will still hold kart practice on Saturday July 19th from 12-5pm. In honor of Steve Peterson there will be an informal memorial service for him at Lowe's kart track at 2pm. Everyone who knew him is welcomed to attend. We have learned it was Steve's wishes to be cremated and have his ashes put on the kart track at Lowe's and his home town track in Michigan. We will keep you posted as more is learned about this and other memorial services that are open to the public. Steve was a very special man and will be missed.

Steve Peterson 1949 2008
07.15.2008 It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of longtime WKA member and karting supporter Steve Peterson. He was a tremendous ambassador of karting and the WKA. Steves WKA journey peaked in the early 1990s while serving as a race director at select events, assisted with event planning, the formation of the speedway pavement series as well as co-directing the Speedway Kart Club. Steve left WKA and karting in January 1995 to work with NASCAR full time as a technical inspector. However, he wasnt gone for good.

WKA President To Appear On Milwaukee Radio Tonight
07.07.2008 World Karting Association President Rick Dresang will appear on the Racing Round Up radio show tonight on Milwaukees ESPN 540 AM WAUK. World Karting Association To Take Part
In NASCAR Festivities at LMS
05.15.2008 The World Karting Association plans to take part in all the activities going on around Lowes Motor Speedway over the next two weekends. The WKA Trailer will be on hand to recruit new members, answer questions and pass out information to fans the two weeks of NASCAR racing in Concord, NC. The trailer will be located outside of Turn 1 of the speedway.

Congratulations Danica!
04.22.2008 - The World Karting Association would like to congratulate former WKA champion Danica Patrick on her first IRL win and history making finish. Danica made history this past weekend by being the first woman to win an IRL event. Sunday, she drove to her first place finish in Japan. She is now third place in points for the season just two points behind IRL driver Scott Dixon. WKA would like to wish you the best of luck for the remainder of the 2008 racing season.

04.17.2008 - In what was to be a day of many firsts for Paulie Harraka, the teenage driver opened the NASCAR Whelen All American Late Model season with a hard fought and well deserved Victory at All American Speedway in Roseville, Ca.. The 18 year old Harraka, who is originally from New Jersey but is now residing in North Carolina, commutes cross-country to Sacramento, Ca. from North Carolina to drive for premier NASCAR team owner Bill McAnally.
